How Does Cupping Work?
Cupping involves using glass cups, quickly inserting fire into the cup to remove oxygen creating a vacuum and then quickly placing the cup on the patient. The cups are either placed stationary or the practitioner will slide them to get greater exposure. When the vacuum is created with the patient's skin it opens the pores, stimulates the flow of blood and Qi, breaks up obstructions and creates an avenue to pull out toxins from the body.

Cupping most likely will leave circular red marks that will disappear in a few days. If the upper back is treated it is advisable to wear a scarf after treatment to cover the exposed skin. Patients should not swim, exercise or shower for the remainder of the day.
What Is Gua Sha & How Does It Work?
Gua Sha translated, gua = scraping and sha = bruising or redness. Gua Sha is also called "scraping," "spooning or "coining." Typically a ceramic Chinese soup spoon, jade, or horn is used with some lotion to lubricate the surface. The skin is scraped until redness is seen, the redness is unlike bruising as it does not produce capillary rupture. Like cupping, the redness will disappear in a few days. Gua Sha increases blood circulation, range of motion, immune function and decreases pain and inflammation.

What Is Moxibustion & How Does It Work?
Moxibustion is burning mugwort directly or indirectly over acupuncture points. Mugwort is a Chinese herb, ai ya, that burns at a frequency that deeply penetrates the human body. Burning moxa emits visible light and infrared radiation. Infrared radiation penetrates 10mm deep under the skin to the tissues and can travel to the organs, energize the metabolism of cells and changes the immune and neurological function.
